The senior middle school English presentation

The senior middle school students English presentation competition on the theme of “ My childhood” was held by China Welfare Institute Children’s Epoch published house recently. Here are some drafts of the students’ presentations.

Honesty
I feel very honored today to share with you my viewpoints of honesty.
Honesty is a very precious and priceless quality one should have. It’s a basic sense of moral
Honesty is very important to our society. It plays an essential roll in creating a good social environment and good relationship between people. Everyone hopes to live in a world of the true, the good and the beautiful. Nobody likes to live in fear for being cheated or defrauded. Then what if honesty doesn’t exist any longer in the world? Everybody, imagine if nobody in the world is honest, everyone is telling lies and cheating others all the time, then you’ll have to think of what you’ve been told over and over again in order to decide whether it’s true or not. How terrible that’ll be.
We all need to be honest. Honesty can make communication more sincere and direct. Honesty can bring people closer together and can make friendship more charitable. Honesty can make one’s spirit more pure. As a result, an honest person can make more friends than those unhonest ones. An honest person can gain others’ trust easily while it’s hard for those unhonest ones.
I remember being told a story in title of “Here comes a wolf”. It’s a household story and I think everyone has heard of it. Let’s think of a few questions about the story. Why was the girl eaten by the wolf at last? Why didn’t people help her anymore? The answer is clear enough. Because she wasn’t honest! She told lies too often that people didn’t believe a word she said! I think we should learn something from the story, from the unhonest girl. Being unhonest leads to a terrible and miserable result!
To be honest is to keep credit in yourself. And credit is important to everyone. Nowadays we appeal for honesty, because as the society developes, we find honesty gradually disappearing out of the world. Many people, especially those manufactors and ads makers, focus only on profit instead of on credit. But what a terrible mistake they’ve made! They don’t realize how important honesty is for them.
Finally, I want to say: Be honest, and you’ll find yourself happy and welcome, trusted and treated sincerely. Be honest, and the world will become more and more true, good and beautiful. Thank you!

My future Career
I want to be a translator in the future because I think a translator is a bridge between two persons who come from them know what the other one wants to express, I believe it is a meaningful thing.
Now the whole world is developing without stopping. Almost everyone went or will go to another country for travelling, studying or going on business, so communication can’t be avoided. When you’re in another country, you should know the cultures of that country, but not everyone really knows that, so translators are necessary.
I study in Gan Quan Foreign Language School, so many foreigners in our school including teachers and students. They can’t speak Chinese very well. Some of them even can’t speak any Chinese for they come to China for the first time. They really need a translator, don’t they? That makes me feel that translators are more and more important in society.
In Australia there’re not so many people as in China, but there’re many different sections and people use different languages. If there were no translators in Australia, almost every section would have no relationship. How horrible it was.
Another reason is that I want to found a benevolent foundation when I grow up. It is good manners to help abandoned children have new families and some other things like that, I think. You know, it needs a lot of money. Being a translator always has very high salary. (That’s true, don’t laugh at me) I may spend the money on the foundation, so that my career will be a meaningful job. I dream that many poor kids may wear new clothes with the help of my foundation. Oh, such a nice thing.
You can obviously find that money is not the most important thing to me and the high salary is not the aim for me work as a translator. I just think communication among different countries is an important part of human being’s society, it can’t be denied, so my future career is to be a translator. Anyway I don’t want to change it and I will try my best to achieve my dream from now on.

Are pets good for mankind?
Are pets good for mankind? It’s really a troublesome problem, attention I used the word “troublesome”. It sounds serious. But it does exist two points of views. Of course, the pets are good for mankind and pets do harm to mankind.
In my opinion, I love pets. On my salad days, I even had a dream to keep a zoo, which will contain all kinds of animals. Actually, I’m a traditional person, that’s to say I would choose a kitty or a puppy as my pet. I think, they’re not only lovely but also considerate. Yes, pets also have their own thought. If you treat them well, you’ll receive their respects and become their friend. I’ve read a book written by Japanese writer. Its name is “Farewell, Kurloo”. At one time, it becomes the best seller in many bookstores. You see, the writer is not famous, the story is not complex, too. Do you know why it succeeded? Listen to the reader’s reply, “I’ve never be moved to tear by a book ever. It’s really a highly praise for a book as well as the hero in this book—kurloo, a blind-helper dog. Sorry, maybe it is not an exact expression, but you know that, a dog that help the blinds to do something necessary. That’s not pets’ only benefit, they can also be a companion of the lonely people, especially the olds. In a word, I love pets and I think they’re good for mankind.
But every coin has two sides. Many other people think pets maybe do harmful to mankind. They rise a lot of arguments that pets may infect terrible decease to us, and they never have the concept of lavatory, you know, they do that wherever they want. So many people consider pets to be very dirty and impolite creatures. Even worse, they criticize the pets-keepers. Their idea is that pets are kinds of wildness. They should live outside and not to be tame.
We must admit to saying that these words are not groundless. But pets are not to blame at least. In our highly civilized society, maybe some decease infected from pets cannot be cured yet but we are sure to prevent them from infecting by means of injection or some other measure. Furthermore, we are very happy to see the authority has already taken pets problems into account, and the first pets’ toilet in our country has been set up in Shenzhen.
Thirdly, pets are the noisemakers. When I passed by a supermarket one day, the only sound that I could hear was the incredibly noisy barking. I can’t imagine that if the city were all surrounded by these pets, how could human beings live? Except for dogs’ barking, birds’ sound can also be awful, though some people think they are “singing”. Believe it or not, when you step into a park in Shanghai in the early morning, the noise make by hundreds of birds can drive you crazy. So please be far away from those pets because they’re also harmful to your ears.
Fourthly, pets make the city dirtier. You can always find dog shit or cat piss in the neighborhood here, and the nasty smell is always the most unacceptable thing especially in summers. What’s more, the remains are also a headache to the dustwomen. They can always complain a lot to the pet-owners, but unfortunately, the only thing that they can do is just complaining, too. Without pets, we can have a better environment, so why don’t we start to throw them way?
Pet can cause some problems in human-to-human communications. Strange, isn’t it? Some Japanese scientists figure out that more pets means less words because more and more youngsters think that their dogs or cats are their best friends and spend less and less time in communicating with their parents and real friends. Many parents believe that Internet can make their children more inactive, but actually, pets can also do that! So the best way to improve your communicational skill is to talk with real people, not to play with your dogs or kitties.
Finally, raising pets means spending more money. The municipal government of the city of Nanjing announced recently that the needy could not raise pets any more because they should spend the money received from the government for themselves, not for their pets. The spokesman said in a news conference that raising pets is luxurious. The poor families can’t raise pets, just like they can’t stay in a five-star hotel or treat their friends with xo.” I agreed with his words because I do know that raising pets needs much money. Usually the cat or dog-food is quite expensive, about 1 yuan per meal, so the expense in one month will reach nearly 100 yuan, which is quite a large amount of money to local citizens. What’s more, buying a license will cost several thousands yuan and health check also needs money. No wonder some people say that dogs lead a better life than their owners! So I think that sending you pets away is also a good way to save money, don’t you think so?
I’ve listed so many disadvantages of raising pets, and I hope that you may agree with me indeed. There is such a saying that “Love me, love my dog”. Today, I want to make a similar one, which has an opposite meaning, “love ourselves, hate the pets.”

The voices of the time
Ladies and Gentlemen, merry Christmas. I’m very honored to be here as the special quest tonight at your New Year party. I guess you must be very curious about who is speaking here. Well, I suppose few of you know me for I am actually invisible. But I’m always here; always exist everywhere and anywhere. I know your name and your job, and even your father’s name and job. Don't be frightened. I’m not the evil spy, but the close friend of your lives, the time.”
“I come to congratulate you on your success in the past year and wish you all good luck in the future. On my way here, I heard a little boy praying to me for some extra gifts, ‘if only I could have a few more days, I would have finished all the thing and even did more this year.’ This is familiar to me. Actually, I received this kind of pray nearly every minute. I promise you here, if I could, I would spare you more, but just ‘if’. I’m sorry to tell you that this ‘if’ will never be possible, for I was born to keep the justice in your life. My only job is to walk continuously in my fixed pace, without even a single spot, and thus I am able to keep the balance of the world, instead of pushing it into a mass. Therefore, I seem to be a harsh and cold man, without any emotion, although I regarded myself as a kind and generous person. In terms of my characteristic, I would like to say that I’m indeed a kind person and easy-going. I would like to make friends all the time and never would worry that I would forget some of the people’s name if I make too many friends. To tell you the truth, I’m afraid of loneliness. However, I’m often alone, for you always feel tired and are not willing to company me all the way in life. So you’d rather follow me leave me alone by stepping backward to have a good rest. You are acknowledge that I cannot stop, but you don’t care while enjoying your so-called ‘releasing and happiness. See, now who is cold?’
“My friends, please allow me to call you in this way. Please do not keep me alone. I can feel that all of you here are ambitious with a very clear picture of your future career, your future dream. After your long ‘rest’, you realize that it’s a must to catch up with me. Since I cannot stop. I cannot slow down, of course. The only thing I can do is to go on walking and pray for you simultaneously. Still, I often see those grooming eyes behind me. I feel sad, for I can understand the expressions there, kind of desperate and pain. Tough eagerly wishing to help you, I could not. This time, I play the role of the coldness.”
“So ladies and gentlemen, I’m sorry to have disturbed your New Year party, but I hope you will remember what I said. I can never slow down. Nor can you. Anyway, go on with your carnival. We have to move on and we cannot slow down and all the memories are just like a film without sound. Grasp your tomorrow. Don’t be afraid of me, and do not be frightened by the difficulties in life. Be strong and courageous enough to treasure me, to treasure your time. Do not complain that life is not fair or I’m not fair. Remember that my job is to keep and grantee the justice in the world.”
“Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Have a good time and enjoy your life and simultaneously treasure your time, please. Again, wish all of you a good luck. Bye, with the deep and best wish in my heart.”

Having a strong sense of Social Morality

Plastics will go green next year. Do you know?” my friend said to me excitedly. I frowned and shook my head. “No, what is it?” “It means all supermarkets will substitute plastic bags with a composable ones in Shanghai next year.” But I didn’t feel as excited as my friend. “But that will be really unconvenient.” I responded. “It’s true paper bags are more environmental friendly, but they are easier to tear and rip. And besides that my family uses plastic bags not only for carrying groceries, we also use them in other ways.”
“But do you know how much pollution in caused by plastic bags every year? Tons and tons of wasted plastic bags are thrown into the see and you know how terrible it is.” He looked at me like I’m nuts. “I think it’s our responsibility to reduce the use of the plastic bags. And I believe it’s necessary for everyone of us to have a strong sense of social morality.” He emphasized.
I got red in the face and felt ashamed of myself. Compared with the pollution that our earth is enduring everyday, I know it’s such a little thing for us to bear these unconvenience. My friend is right. Everyone should a strong sense of social morality since we are living in the society and people’s sense of social morality shows in the little aspects like what we would we do with the plastic bags.
Our body is composed of tens of thousands of alls. When a small amount of them are offended by the germs. We’ll get sick and suffer from diseases. Our society is composed of millions of individuals. When a group of them don’t have a strong sense of social morality, the whole system will be hurt and people’s mormal life will be affected.
I nodded to my friend. “You are right. I will try my best to avoid using plastic bags from now on.” I know it’s such an easy thing for every one of us to say “No, thank you. I’ve got my bag.” In the supermarkets but that really counts to the point of reduce pollution if everyone of us do so.
Apart from that, wherever you are, stick to the traffic regulations however busy you are,, be friendly to the out comers no matter what kind of stress you’re in, those things are so small that hardly any of us pay any attention to them. But these things show the standard of a city. Shanghai is a metropolis with a huge population, if everyone does have a temptation to cut corers. I am sure it will be neater, nicer and in a better order.
Every individual is a part of the society; every individual shows the spirit of our city; every individual is responsible for the future of the human race. Our sense of social morality is the assurance of our pursuit of happiness, it shows in every little aspect that we perform in our social life.
Confucius has said, “Within the four seas all men are brothers”. So my friend, we are like living in a big family. Shouldn’t we build our home a more comfortable place to live in? shouldn’t we preserve the beauty of the earth from generation to generation?

Does parental permissiveness affect children’s development?
How to educate children has long been an often-talked topic among parents. Different people may hold different points, but one thing is for sure, that these points of view have always been changing as time changes.
Families nowadays are getting healthier and having fewer children, so parents can easily afford to provide the kids with better living conditions, which means abundant food, clothes, etc. Moreover, children have more freedom to do what they wish to do, for the parents are becoming more open minded than before.
But there’s a problem. If parents just allow kids to do whatever they want to do, as named parental permissiveness, it will be very dangerous and harmful for the kids.
First, if the parents always permit their children to do what they want to do, children will feel it natural to behave without thinking whether it’s right or wrong, and this ignorance may cause problems to other people as well as themselves. For example, a child who tries to steal an apple because he wants to paces it, if not punished or taught by the parents, may gradually begin to steal a bicycle, or even, money. No body wants his children to become thieves, but the cause may just be the parents themselves.
Second, children can’t live under the protection of their parents all their. They’ll one day leave home and begin to live with others and work socially, which means they can no longer do everything they wish to. But if the kids have already got used to the ways they behave at home; they may be faced with great hardship and obstacles in dealing with the others and accomplishing things, and their wishes can not be that easily satisfied as before. Consequently, some may always have interpersonal problems, while some may feel too frustrated or depressed to do anything after experiencing many difficulties. To them, life seems to have suddenly become tough. This is very, very harmful for their mental as well as physical well-being, and may even affect their future lives.
In conclusion, parental permissiveness should be avoided in family education, especially when the children are very young. Nevertheless, it is equally harmful if the parents are too strict, for children may lose their creativity, the ability to think independently, as well as the ability to make decisions at critical times of their lives.
Accordingly, educating children is no easy jobs for the parents. If they can really learn to love but not to spoil their children, it is certain that their children will have much better characters and personalities, which will remain great treasure all their lives.

Are Pets Good For Mankind?
A piece of breaking news came on Dec, 17th that SARS came back in Taiwan. More and more people began to become worried and anxious because it reminded us of the terrible outbreak of SARS in this spring.
Why did I mention that piece of information here? Because many experts believe that the origin of the SARS virus is supposed to has a link with animals, and many kinds of pets, which used to be called” men’s best friends”, can carry the virus that are infections. So more and more scientists warn the pet-lovers that your lovely and lively “friends” can be your trouble-maker in the future.
I am strongly against raising pets not only because they can bring something dirty and nasty to us, but also because they are always the “awful creatures” in this modernized metropolis. Now let me give you some of the reasons to support my point of view.
Firstly, as I’ve just said, pets can bring mankind some kind of diseases. Not only SARS, but also some other diseases, like flu, are believed that they’re originally found in cats’ or dogs’ body. Some experts ever point out that pets can “create” some viruses, which means they can transform some old weak viruses into new strong ones that cannot be easily defeated. Health is always the most important thing to ourselves, so leave your pet may give you a chance to say goodbye to those deadly diseases.
Secondly, though pets can bring happiness to their owners, they can also bring sadness to others. Many kinds of pets, especially dogs, are the most dangerous and terrifying animals in the neighborhood, so if the owners can’t control and look after their “babies” well, they may become the “spirit”. I was once chased by a dog in a lane when I was a 7-year-old child. I could hardly find any words to describe my feelings because it was so frightening and I was so scared. At last, the pet-owner came and caught his dog and I could sigh with relief. From that time that I find that pets are really a hidden danger to kids and senior citizens. They may cause very serious social problems. Leave the pets or you’ll face a “war”.
Thirdly, pets are the noise-maker. When I passed a pet market one day, the only sound that I could hear was the incredibly noisy barking. I can’t imagine that if the city were all surrounded by these pets, how could human beings live! Except the dogs’ barking, birds’ sound can also be awful, though some people think they are ‘singing’. Believe it or not when you step into a park in Shanghai in the early morning, the noise make by hundreds of birds can drive you crazy. So please be far away from those pets because they’re also harmful to your ears.
Fourthly, pets make the city dirtier. You can always find dog shit or cat piss in the neighborhood here, and the nasty smell is always the most unacceptable thing especially in summers. What’s more, the remains are also a headache to the dust women. They can always complain a lot to the pet-owners, but unfortunately, the only thing that they can do is just complaining, too. Without pets, we can have a better environment, so why don’t we start to throw them way?

Honesty
Honesty, a simple word consisting of only seven plain letters, is yet a grand idea that is always dominating the world of good and evil. Because of this, the word “honesty” is rarely mentioned in our casual daily life.
However, despite of its seriousness, “honesty has become a hot topic nowadays. The reason is quite obvious.
With the development of economy, an increasingly amount of people are living a much better life. But some people are so eager to make money that they push the thought of “honesty” aside and try their best to earn, seemingly, a better life.
Adding illegal sauces to the food, changing the contents of mobile phones before selling them out… the examples are, sadly, too numerous.
People often blame these people bitterly for “not being honest to the society”, and many “Honesty Banks” are springing up all the time. People are trying to persuade the society to “save” honesty and get some practical “profits” in return.
However, from my paint of view, honesty has far too great a value to be measured in money, marks and all the childish matters human has created! So what is honesty?
It’s a mighty word serving as a scale measuring the good and the evil. No one is perfect, and all human can make mistakes. But the difference is whether you choose to be honest with yourself or else. And that very choice of honesty makes the world what it is today.
Secondly, honesty is also a means to show people’s reliability in this society. It’s a true heart rather than a warm action that fills this world with so many firm links between people of all races. Honesty is the power to make this world a safer place!
Most important of all, this magical word never fails to promise you a truly happy life.
Many people consider honesty a sound behavior towards other people. But I say it’s more of a matter concerning ourselves.
Being honest is like taking responsibility of your own life. Every dog has his day, but the happiness created by dishonesty will never last long. If you really values honesty, then put your heart at ease, for what you believe in has promised you a life without regret!
Certainly, the problem of honesty will continue to be a popular topic, and it probably won’t cool down until the problem is finally solved.
So why don't we start now to treat this world with an honest and true heart? It’s time to gain back our trust and live a more peaceful life.
Finally, honesty will be the very magic that brings the world back to a paradise of trust!

Respecting the old and loving the young
There’s a Chinese old saying goes, which simply means people have this social responsibility to respect the old and love the young.
Chinese people always place a relatively greater emphasis on their “Family Tie”. Many families still live in a traditional way in which a household is made up of three generations. Therefore, people maturely grow a concept of caring for each other in the whole family and thus respecting the old and loving the young is a widely accepted deed and is being performed in most parts of the society.
Of course, I don’t intend to say that the respect ion and the love should only be restricted in our own family on the contrary, we should face the whole society and contribute our love to all the old as well as the young, especially towards those homeless disabled old people and the young children who live in the orphanage.
Let me share with you some of my personal experiences. I used to do the social community work with my classmates every week. We went to some nursing home to visit the old there. The first time I went there, I felt deeply touched when seeing the old people sitting in the wheel chair, helpless to do anything but sit and wait. They were silent, with no words or any expression, but I could feel how lonely and helpless they are. I was extremely sad when I saw that. I thought of myself that if I could do anything to make them happier, I would definitely do it. So, my classmates and me went there regularly to sing them some songs, play games with them or even just simply talk to them. From then on, not only did we bring the joy and happiness to those old people, but also I had grown a sense of fulfilling my own moral sense and making other people’s life better.
Well, my point is that when people get old, they might have a lower self-esteem and regard themselves useless or helpless. So, what they really need is more attention and more care from other people. In order not to make them feel lonely, we should give them more respect and provide them more care voluntarily.
Thus making the rest of their life more enjoyable and worthwhile. But some people don’t seem to care for it, some extreme ones even tend to abandon the old so as to obtain the ownership of the housing and the will of their parent. Isn’t that prosthetic? In a word, the old are to be respected instead of being abandoned.
And for the young children. We always like to compare the young to the May flowers, which is equivalent to that the young are the future and the hope as well. There’s no doubt that people ought to love the young and cultivate them properly. But in today’s society, especially in China, due to the one child policy, the love provided by the parents as well as the other family members to their only child at home is likely to be overwhelming in other words, love usually turns out into spoil. And that absolutely is not healthy to the child. How to love the young appropriately is still a remaining current social problem to be further discussed. Loving the young doesn’t mean spoiling them.
As I mentioned before, there are May young children who don’t have a mormal family and are longing for parental love and care. So loving the young is not only limited to the young in your family but also you have to see it in a macro way. To those orphans or homeless children, we should give them more love and attention. Child adoption in a way of some people showing their love while donation is another. Well, I think the best thing we can do is to go to the orphanage and to do some volunteer work, I mean for us, the youth leagues.
In conclusion, respecting the old and loving the young is a mandatory social responsibility for everyone of us. To contribute our love to them will make their life as well as ours much better and brighter!

Does parental permissiveness affect children’s development?
This is an interesting topic. Since our country has announced the one-child policy, the parents have spent all their love on their only child. Whatever they want, their parents will try their best to meet their requirement. But is this good? Does parental permissiveness affect children’s development?
In my opinion, it does affect the children’s development and can be harmful to their growth. First of all, it’ s no good for the children managing themselves. Some of the parents help their children do everything in their daily life just in order to let their children get down on their study. They cook breakfast for them. They think what kind of clothes their children should wear. They even consider what kind of job their children should take in the future. In their minds, the more they do for the children, the more successful their children will be. However, their opinion is obviously wrong. The parental permissiveness will cause a very dangerous result. The child who lives in this kind of family will lose independence and always depend on others. Several realities have proved that too much parental permissiveness will affect children’s development. Comparing with the child whose family has a lot of members, the child who is in a one-child family is not good at solving the problems which he meets in his daily life alone. They don’t know how to cook when they’re suffering from hunger. They don’t have a clue on what to wear when the winter is coming. They even have no idea when they’re lost in the cities! How can you say a man that cannot manage himself is successful? How can you tell that the shortage of independence won’t affect the children’s development? I have to say that the main reason of it is parental permissiveness.
Furthermore, a child who only knows to receive the love from their parents will not be accepted by the modern society. In fact, because of parental permissiveness, they only know to accept love but no to give others love. They are cold-hearted, and selfish. This can be very dangerous to their development. Now we need people who are not only cute but also warm-hearted. According to the textbook of Politics, giving should be more than accepting. But a child who only receives love from his parents since his childhood spread love to the others when he grows up? No, certainly not, and actually he’s not a useful person. So can we conclude that parental permissiveness is good for children’s development? No.
I still remembered that when I was young, my mother loved me a lot and always met my requirement. Once my grandmother said, “ If you even wanted the moon, your mother would get it for you as well.” This showed the love that parents gave us. But as a mother of fact, too much parental permissiveness can be harmful, and it will surely affect the development of children.

Honesty
What is honesty? To be honest is to be frank; to be honest is to do things according to one’s moral standard, one’s ethic code, regardless of outside circumstances. From ancient modern times, honesty is always considered as one of the most important virtues of a person. Honest people are always respected by others, no matter in literature or daily life. So why is honesty valued so much by the public?
Someone may think those honest people are rather stupid. What on earth does honesty bring them? How much is honesty worth? According to their theory, when you accidentally see a diamond left by your colleague on his desk, why shouldn’t you take it? When you can get much higher scores in the exam by cheating, why shouldn’t you perform it? For them, the most important thing to be considered seems not to be what they should do; rather, what they value most is the result they “achieved”, no matter by which means and they are fair or not. But I wonder now these people themselves will react when catching others cheating or taking someone else belongings. Will they keep calm to watch the process going on? I do not think so. If what they value is the profit they can get, they must jealous of what others get. Therefore, we can imagine a world without honesty, people are fighting against each other for the limited resources, somebody steals, and somebody cheats---. We can never live in this society, can we?
In fact, why do and should people value honesty? The answer not only lies in the social security it has brought us (as discussed before), but also lies in the fact that it is not easy to keep honest all the time. From the psychological view, people must fight against their Old Adams, greed, craving for fame (no matter deserved or not) and so on to keep themselves on track of normal value standard. It is a test of endurance and integrity, which is even harder when we face all kinds of temptation. Thus honesty is a quality shared by only those nobles minds and thus it is precious and we sing all our energies for it.
If we take a closer look at our modern daily life, we can easily deduce that a person without honesty can hardly live in current society. Nowadays, more and more people are using credit cards, and they only need to type in the card number and the expiration date to use it in any kind of purchase, even online purchase. This process is so easy that even the input of password has been omitted, which is totally incredible in a society without honesty. Several days before, my school received a copy of test paper from Oxford University. According to the instruction, I should sit for the test on Sunday at my own school and the test is administered by my own teacher. To my surprise, when my teacher informed me of this test, it was still well before the test date. Doing the test at my own school first requires my honesty and Oxford admissions offices believe that honesty is the quality within their every applicant. This time, I am glad I passed the moral test and finished the written test following the instructions.

I will volunteer my future career
Every individual matters, every individual has a role to play, every individual can make a difference.
We live in a world where there are still conflicts going on, where there are still families which can no afford their children to school, where there are still our friends living in pain and sorrow because of hunger, disease or poverty.
I will volunteer to help those poor people, to help make the world a better place, a big and harmony home for all. That’s my dream for my future, that’s what I wanna be??a red United Nations Volunteer.
Being a UN volunteer doesn’t mean high salaries, neither high position nor public attention. But, in my point of view, a volunteer is a man with love, care and responsibility. All these showed the volunteerism, the strength of share and hope. We could help to change the world, only a bit by individual, but quite a lot by all volunteers.
Dr. Jane Goodall, a famous naturalist, a woman who has lived with the chimpanzees for 20 years, has set up Jane Goodall Institute to promote the concept of caring other people. Other animals and our blue planet to all over the world. She is the example in my eyes as a true volunteer. Inspired by her effort in raising the public awareness of doing one’s share to improve the environment for all living things. I joined the Roots and shoots program founded by JGI Shanghai as the start of my chasing for my future dream. Jane says, “ Roots seem very weak. But to reach the light, shoots can be found everywhere and make a firm foundation. They can break open walls. Imagine the walls are the problems we face today hundreds and thousands of young people over the world.” Following such a principle, I set up a roots and shoots group in our school. I was so proud when I received the membership form from JGI Shanghai. I’m now a real volunteer—though I’m still a high school student, but I can do what I can, and step by step, towards the foal of a real UN volunteer to realize my dream.
As the leader of the group, I organized a lot of activities to do our share as members of the society. Now, Christmas is coming, while sending greetings by paper card is still a popular way in China, it really has a disastrous impact on forest resources. So our group is on action we make slogans, notice boards by recycled cardboard and displayed them on the gate of our school. Meanwhile, we persuaded people to send “Merry Christmas” via other ways esp. Email, broadcasting or just by your mouth. We gained support from many teachers and students, finally we succeed! The mission of a roots and shoots group also includes caring for other people suffering from misfortune. Thus, we decided to bring Christmas gifts to children who are suffering form lickmia (a kind of blood cancer). We raised the money by recycling of used newspapers, selling of personal stuff and changes we get while paying in supermarkets. A total amount of 1,000 RMB will be paid to buy presents as Holy Night’s surprise for them.
Actually, all the things I mentioned above can be done by every individual in the society. Of the conception of volunteerism can spread to the every corner of the grand land of China. Our society will surely be a better, warmer place for all.
I believe so and that’s aim I’m trying to turn to reality.
“I will volunteer”, “the slogan for World Volunteer Day is not only a slogan but a kind of way of life. Winston Churchill told us: “ We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” While giving, we are gaining. When I was browsing on the official website of UN volunteers, I was deeply moved by the stories they make in Africa, Asia, Europe and other countries in the world. From the bottom of my heart, I want to join. I want to be part of the team, to help to build schools for Iraqi children to care about children who are suffering from AIDS to design a device to let blind people see, let deaf people hear. When I graduate from university, I will join the UN volunteer group and help to set up its office in Shanghai. I will let every Shanghai citizen to know the importance of volunteerism through my work and my partner team. Volunteer is a vocation. No, it doesn’t mean money or fame, it means contribution, it means hard work, it means spreading love and care.
My dream as being a volunteer in the future is definitely different form others’, I bet. In fact, I have dreamed of being a millionaire like Bill Gates, being a super football player like David Beckham, being a scientist like Albert Einstein, being a pianist like Yundi Lee, but eventually, I decided to be a volunteer in the future. It’s really the goal of my whole life. I have a dream, I dream all people around the world are born equally and treated equally. I dream the world will free of war and conflicts. I dream freedom and happiness can be found everywhere. I dream everyone could be a volunteer in some way, in some time.
“ I will volunteer”, I so swear, no matter rich or poor, healthy or ill. I will be a volunteer when volunteers are needed to help.
I cherish the title of being a volunteer. I value the experience of giving my love to others. I will volunteer, and you?

Having a strong sense of social morality
Recently, the issue of having a strong sense of social morality has been brought into public attention. Many people agree that it is very essential for all of us to have it, while I strongly vote for it. In my point of view, having a strong sense of social morality is not only important to individual but also it plays a very inevitable role in today’s society.
In the first place, a strong sense of social morality gives rise to one’s own personality as well as one’s perspective. Since we were kids, we were taught many good behaviors and manners. Such as: don’t speak loudly in the public places. No littering! No smoking!” etc. They have shaped our good social morality. Thus, we can tell the good behaviors form the wrong behaviors. Imagine that, if everyone can obey these rules and act according to the strong social morality in our mind, the whole society will become clearer and less polluted. People will surely live a happy life, breathing the fresh air, seeing the beautiful sight of the city and living in a comfortable environment.
Secondly, a strong sense of social morality also brings about the enhance of personal quality. With the development of people’s morality, whoever does something wrong should blame by others. Consequently, all of us will cultivate good habits. We will be more polite and friendly. There’s no doubt that the proportion of the social problems will reduce.
Furthermore, a strong sense of social morality influences the whole society in many aspects. Bad social morality results in bad reputation, pollution, disorders and so on. These negative effects are imaginable. Take our country for an example, a horrible disease—SARS spread in this spring, people regard Anti-SARS as an extremely serious battle. Without a strong social morality, how could the citizens develop good habits, keep washing hands and take care of others so that most of us could avoided being suffering from it? Without a strong social morality, how could many clothing factories and medical works produce protective productions and medicines in such a short time? Without a strong social morality, how could many provinces and cities transfer their medicines to some places which one short of them? Without a strong social morality, how could the Xiao Tang Shan Hospital in Beijing be built in only seven days and be opened to patients? Obviously, the success of Anti-SARS depended on the development of people’s social morality throughout China.
As it known to all, China will be the host of the 2008 Olympic Games and Shanghai succeeded in the bidding for the 2010 EXPO. In spite of the construction of gymnasiums, museums and other facilities, what we expect is people’s strong sense of social morality. With the open policy and globalization, China’s position is rising rapidly in the whole world and Shanghai has also been brought into the world’s himeozit. More and more foreigners will come to our motherland and see how good are people’s social morality, more and more international trades and exchanges will bring about. A strong sense of social morality of the whole society might give a deep impression on the foreigners. People’s good quality and personality will be praised by other countries. This will promotes the exchange and communication between China and foreign countries.
We are looking forward that one day Shanghai will be the center of economics, trade, finance and transportation in China and china will focus the world’s attention. Every one of us should have a strong sense of social morality and try our best to enhance the social morality of our city and motherland. In order to shape our personal morality as well as make contributions to our society, let us improve our social morality and form a satisfactory social atmosphere together. The foreground will be bright and considerable.
