Combining childcare, education and scientific research, the preschool education units in China Welfare Institute include the CWI Nursery, the CWI kindergarten and the Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten. About 900 children aged 2-6 are accommodated each year.

Based on the physiological and psychological characteristics of young children, the nursery and kindergarten integrate children's care with education and make scientific arrangement for the children's daily life. The vivid and lively games are used to give children enlightening education and physical training in order to cultivate their ability of observation, imagination and expression.

The Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten has set up the international department for children of foreign residents in Shanghai. Experienced foreign teachers are invited to work in this kindergarten by applying theory and practice of international advanced preschool education in their teaching.
