To mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camps as well as victory in the Anti-Fascist War, actors from the Children’s Art Theatre of China Welfare Institute performed a new play named “Finding Illan’s father in Shanghai”. The play started its first three-night run in the Experimental Theatre of the Shanghai Theatre of the Shanghai Theatre Academy from May 9.
Children’s Art Theatre has invested about 2 million yuan to stage the play, this is really a big budget for a children’s production. This is the first time that period of (Jewish) history has been presented on stage. It will be helpful for the younger generation to learn about a unique period in Chinese history and the importance of peace.
Ilan Maor, consul general for Israel in Shanghai, saw the play. He said: it is a very special play and reflects a very special period of history as well as shows the life of both the Shanghainess and the Jewish people in the city.
