In 1995,the award was inaugurated to commemorate Mr. Deng Wenzhao, the member of central committee of China Defense League. The award set up by Deng Guang Yin, son of Deng Wenzhao, and Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation is intended to encourage the excellent kindergarten and elementary school teachers who dedicate to the education in the impoverished areas.

The Deng Wenzhao Teacher's Award has been issued in Jinzhai country, Anhui province and in Wenchang city, Hainan province.
